Field Notes
Studies in place and process
Field Notes is an ongoing series of personal projects built around place and process. Each entry documents a specific environment, the experience of being there, and the things I came to understand that I did not expect. These are not assignments. Some are close to home. Some are not. They are the projects I create because I want to, the subjects I choose because they interest me, and images I make when no one is asking for anything in particular.
Habitat Flats
Gun Dogs | Missouri | Trust
A day following a trainer through a Missouri gun-dog kennel. Most of what passed between the handler and the dog happened in a glance and a wait.
Overnight on the Platte River
Wildlife | Winter | Patience
Overnight in a blind on the Platte River in sub-zero temperatures. The moment I came for never arrived. The one I didn't expect came the evening before.
Bushveld
Wildlife | South Africa | Observation
A week in the South African bush, where lions, elephants, and wild dogs have no interest in being photographed. Learning to see.
Hanna Farms
Agriculture | Family | Perspective
Returning to the family farm years later, this time behind a camera.
